INTRODUCTION - back to top
The Organising Committee’s aim is to give all drivers, navigators, passengers and supporters, old and young, a rally they will remember involving our mutual interest in historic vehicles and motoring them to and around the greater Wanganui area. As this is your holiday we have planned an event that is fun and social with ample opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones.
Another one of our aims is to make the Rally family friendly with special rally packs, activities and events for children who register. There will also be a crèche available at the rally venue which also features an indoor swimming pool complex adjacent to the Rally Village.
There are two parts to this event. The first is an optional ‘Monte Carlo’ Rally which starts from 9 different points around New Zealand. These routes, which are able to be driven at leisure and are not competitive, will be calling in at various Branch club-rooms en-route.
Entrants are expected to arrive in Wanganui to an official welcome on Monday the 16th of January between 1.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. That afternoon rally packs can be uplifted from the Rally Village at Springvale Park prior to entering “Rally Central” where the social events will be based.
The second part of the event is a hub-type rally, centred in Wanganui, which rallies out to six different destinations. For the hub rally you have the option of choosing either competitive or non-competitive (touring).
Entrants can choose to do the optional Monte Carlo Rally first or can arrive in Wanganui on Monday 16th of January to start the main rally activities.

HUB RALLY DESTINATIONS - back to top The six Hub rally destinations are Hawera, Feilding, Marton, Hunterville, Ratana and Jerusalem. Arrangements have been made at each arrival point so that activities of a local flair will be available on each day for the entertainment and education of entrants and their passengers. Food at reasonable costs will be available at each destination other than Ratana which will be the responsibility of entrants and passengers.
VCC VEHICLE IDENTITY CARD (VIC) - back to top In some cases Entrants may not have completed a VCC Vehicle Identity Card for a vehicle currently being restored for the 2012 Rally. Please note that a VCC Vehicle Identity card is a compulsory requirement, and this information will be required by 31 October 2011.
Also a photo is required by 31 October 2011. PUBLIC OPEN DAY The public Open Day will take place at the Wanganui Racecourse on the Sunday of Wellington Anniversary Weekend which is the 22nd of January 2012. The theme for the day will be “The Great Old Fashioned Family Picnic”. There will be lots of activities for our entrants to enjoy and be involved with as well as entertainment for the paying public. More details will be advertised nearer the start of the Rally when the arrangements are finalised. The aim of the day is to attract and entertain as many people of all ages as possible. There will be the usual assortment of vintage vehicles, plus trading stalls of all kinds, displays arranged by local and other clubs, and rides of all types. Catering will be both formal and informal, indoors and out for all tastes. With many thousands expected to pass through the gates, convenience, security, and "all day" entertainment should provide for all needs. Convenor for the day is Ian Chamberlain, Wanganui Branch.
ONE MAKE CLUBS - back to top One make vehicle clubs have been contacted throughout New Zealand and invited to join in the Rally over the middle weekend. Special arrangements details for them are available through Club Secretaries of their respective Clubs.
OVERSEAS ENTRANTS - back to top If you are borrowing (or hoping to borrow) a vehicle in New Zealand and its details are not known at the time of entry, please note they are to be advised by 31 October 2011 (including Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc.) Vehicle Identity Card (VIC) number.)
MANFIELD POMEROY EVENT - back to top
All Rally entrants are invited to participate in an event which will be held at the Manfeild Circuit in Feilding on 21 January 2012. The event will be run to the Pomeroy Trophy handicap formula to determine the ultimate touring car and motorcycle. The formula balances vehicle characteristics against the following timed tests for rally entrants: • ¼ mile standing start sprint • ¼ mile flying start sprint • Precision braking test
• Slalom test • Target laps in specified time
There will also be a road touring section. Everyone has a chance of winning
There will also be demonstration laps by some very historic racing cars Requirements for Rally entrants to participate in the event are as follows: • Vehicle Identity Card, as per event entry • Approved Crash Helmet (Limited loan helmets available) • Flame Proof Overalls or Cotton Overalls • Vehicles may be subject to scrutineering before competition
Rally entrants may participate in a vehicle other than their Rally mount so long as it has a VIC. If the vehicle is not road licensed its inability to run in the road section would however render the entrant out of contention in the competition
The maximum number of vehicles that can be accommodated is 120 and entries will be closed once this number is reached
Entrants who do not hold a race license should leave the ‘Optional Speed Event’ section blank (this classification no longer applies) and simply complete the ‘Manfeild Speed Event’ field in the ‘Entry Fees’ section. As confirmation of your entry in the Pomeroy event you will be sent a VCC day license to allow participation in the event. Event details will be provided direct to competitors on receipt of entry details.
While organisers have endeavoured to minimise the risks associated with closed circuit events, entrants should be aware that most vehicle policies do not cover this kind of use, If in doubt, check with your insurer.
ST JOHN AMBULANCE INFORMATION - back to top The Rally has contracted the services of St John Ambulance who run the ambulance service for Wanganui and will be in attendance at the Rally Village complex each evening as well as other rally events. They have suggested that we put together a confidential file of entrants who have medical conditions so that they have a quick reference if any difficulty arises during the Rally in Wanganui. If you have a medical condition that you think St John should know about, and you are happy for us to supply this confidential information to St John, then please indicate your acceptance on the entry form.
CHILD MINDING SERVICE - back to top The Wanganui Boys & Girls Gym Club whose premises are beside the Rally Village, are offering a child minding service each evening from 5pm to 9pm including a meal and entertainment at $15.00 per child per night. Please indicate on your entry form if you are interested in using this service.
MERCHANDISING - back to top The organising committee will be marketing their own merchandising items. A full list and costs will be sent to each e-mail address so that entrants have the opportunity of purchasing on-line the different items prior to arrival in Wanganui. These will be at discounted rate up until the 31st of October 2011.
SERVICE CLUBS - back to top On Thursday the 19th January 2012 the combined Service Clubs of Wanganui will be holding a combined dinner. If you are a member of Rotary, Lions, Zonta, Masonic Lodge or Probus and would like to receive an invitation to this dinner, please indicate on the entry form.
